Time for a change?

If you're considering a hair colour change, from lightning up for summer to a full on tress-transformation, Jessica from RD Leigh shares her top tips.

Summer colour

1. When considering any kind of colour change, it's important to have a thorough consultation with your stylist first. Taking your hair from black to platinum isn't going to happen in one appointment and will take more maintenance to help the hair to remain healthy throughout the process. You need to be patient and prepared for the cost that could come with it.

2. If you're looking for a seasonal change i.e. lighter for summer or darker for winter, this doesn't just have to be traditional high and lowlights. Your stylist can advise on techniques such as strobing, contouring, ombre and balayage to give a more natural effect with lower maintenance.

3. Treatments throughout the process may also be necessary to help maintain the integrity of the hair. Reilly Denholm offer a host of Lather Lounge treatments including Olaplex, Awapuhi Wild Ginger KeraTriplex and HydraTriplex and MarulaOil to name a few, which will help to strengthen and protect delicate strands.

4. Your stylist will also recommend a home care maintenance program for you to help protect your hair colour investment and keep your hair healthy between appointments. Just as you wouldn't wash a cashmere jumper in washing up liquid, it's important to use good quality professional products that are best suited to your hair care needs.

Jess colour change

This colour change on one of my guests has to be my favourite for an easy summer update. We kept her natural colour at the root and then hand-painted lightner throughout the mid-lengths and ends to add softness, movement and more contrast.

To keep a cool tone to the lighter pieces, I mixed together KC Color Mask in Caramel and Latte which the guest can also use at home to help maintain her colour.
